Dr. Alfonso Muñoz has been in private practice for 27 years in Payson, Arizona and joined the Arizona Heart Institute (AHI) in January 2008 as a cardiovascular surgeon.
He earned his Medical Degree and Rotating Internship certificate from the University of Chile Medical School in Santiago,Chile. Dr. Muñoz completed his general surgery training at San Pablo Hospital in Coquibo,Chile and cardiovascular training at Hospital Salvador-El Torax in Santiago, Chile. He completed his cardiovascular surgery fellowship training(1975-1978)at St. Joseph Hospital-Arizona Heart Institute under Program Director Dr. Edward B. Diethrich and the Texas Heart Institute – St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, under Program Director Dr. Denton Cooley.
Dr. Muñoz’s memberships include the Denton Cooley Cardiovascular Society, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists (ISES), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, and President Elect of the Edward B. Diethrich Vascular Surgical Society and the International College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the Arizona Medical Association, elected as Executive Committee Member, and National Surveyor for the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
He will provide services at the Arizona Heart Institute Payson Clinic. Dr. Muñoz performs surgical procedures at the Payson Regional Medical Center and at the Arizona Heart Hospital.
