Psychological Support Services

"Everyone experiences stress, but not everyone deals with it effectively," says Carole Klein, M.Ed., Education Director of Psychological Services at the Arizona Heart Institute. Studies have shown that emotional stress can contribute to your risk of heart disease by raising your blood pressure and heart rate, and by increasing the workload on your heart.

Whether you're at risk for heart disease or if you're recovering and wish to reduce your risk of future disease, consultants to the Arizona Heart Institute's Psychological Services Department offer several services aimed at reducing your stress and providing psychological support.

Our Stress Management Program is a comprehensive, individualized program for those who wish to reduce the harmful effects of stress and learn practical methods to combat tension. Two 1-1/2 hour sessions include relaxation training, identification of tension areas in the body, education about how stress affects the mind and body, and ways to reduce negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. The cost of this program is $90.

Other programs are available to address:

- Preoperative or postoperative counseling
- Grief counseling
- Chronic pain management
- Marital/family counseling
- Substance abuse
- Weight reduction
- Depression
- Anxiety or panic
- Sleep distress
- Life transition issues
- Spousal anxiety

Psychological Services accepts Medicare assignments and will check with your insurance carrier to let you know what your co-payment might be before beginning services.

To make an appointment, please call Carole Klein at (602) 809-7118.
