The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was passed by Congress in 1996. The Arizona Heart Institute and the Arizona Heart Hospital are required to be in compliance with the regulations by April 14, 2003. As a result, you may notice some new paperwork when having services at our clinics or the hospital. A Notice of Privacy Practices will be given to you upon admission for any service to notify you of your rights as a patient. This notice describes how we may use and disclose your protected health information to carry out treatment, payment or health care operations and for other purposes that are permitted or required by law. It also describes your rights to access and control your protected health information in some cases.
