The 31-week echocardiography program is offered in October of each year. It is designed for individuals who are currently working in the field of ultrasound or who are considering entering the profession.
Classes and clinical training follow a 40-hour week schedule, with approximately eight hours per week in the classroom and the remainder at clinical sites. Students are evaluated on the basis of exams and clinical performance.
Applicants are required to fulfill at least one of the following criteria:
Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a pin and a certificate of achievement from the Arizona Heart Institute.
Students are responsible for their own housing, food, books, supplies, transportation, health insurance, and other living expenses.
The future of cardiac ultrasound is bright. I strongly believe that a decision to enter the field is a good one- one that will allow you to embark in a career that promises continued growth and challenges, both personally and professionally.
In 1982, the School of Cardiac Ultrasound became the first ultrasound teaching program to specialize echocardiography. This unique program was established because it was clear that technological advances causing rapid growth in the specialty would create a demand for formally trained cardiac sonographers.
Over the years, our objectives have not changed, and our curriculum has kept pace with rapidly evolving technology. New and exciting advances in the field include transesophageal, stress, and fetal echocardiography; intravascular ultrasound; and real-time 3-D ultrasound. The need for highly trained sonographers is still growing.
The number of students accepted for each class is small, which permits in-depth, individualized instruction. Medical facilities throughout the United States look first to our school for new employees. Job placement assistance is offered to all students. Our graduates are in practice across the United States and around the world.
